A novel about teaching
It is, in my perspective, a novel about a man falling in love. First he falls in love with his discipline. Then he falls in love with teaching. Then he falls in love with another person. Stoner, the character isn’t a great success in life. In fact, one of the most amazing things about the novel is that Williams sums up the plot on the very first page; a literary device I have never seen. This one-page summary proves that a novel is never about plot.
It is also a great story about life in a university.
