Student engagement in online learning: Welcome video with the new Video Widget Tool

With the new CloudDeakin template, the Video Post Widget is now available on the home page of your CloudDeakin site. This is a perfect location for your welcome video as students will find this video when they first access the unit.

There is a large volume of literature outlining the effective use of asynchronous interactive videos having a positive impact on student learning and outcome in online learning environments – in particular, strong instructor presence is listed as one of the significant factors:

1) online instruction can be as effective as traditional instruction; 2) to do so, online courses need cooperative/collaborative (active) learning and 3) strong instructor presence.” (Dixson, 2012, p. 1)
