New Prize for Best Unit Welcome Video

Welcome Videos were introduced to all Deakin unit sites this year.

It’s a simple addition but it puts a face to each unit. So it’s another important step in building engaging, personalised, learning experiences for all our students.

To recognise and celebrate the imagination that has gone into these videos the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, Professor Beverley Oliver will offer a $500 professional development prize for the most creative and engaging video in each faculty.

Staff can nominate their unit introductory video by uploading it to a special judging channel on Deakin Air.  For detailed instructions on uploading see this guide.

Entries close 5pm Monday 17 October.

The top ten videos will be featured on a showcase page on the Deakin website.

The competition will be judged by Professor Beverley Oliver (DVCE), A/Prof Marcus O’Donnell (Director, Digital Learning), Matt McDonald and Dana Harding (President and VP of DUSA), and Georgie Fidge (Marketing Manager, Deakin Digital & Deakin Prime).

  1. Eligible: welcome videos in T1 and T2, 2016 unit sites.
  2. Criteria: Does the video welcome students in an inviting way? Does it clearly explain what to expect from the unit? Does it engage and inspire students to learn?
  3. Prizes: one prize of $500* per faculty and up to five highly commended.
  4. Award announced Friday 11 November at Deakin Teaching and Learning Conference.
